God's Cake

All this talk about cake reminded me of an e-mail I received a while back. You’ve probably seen it, too. It’s called “God’s Cake.” Though not deep theology, it is quite a vivid illustration of the way God blends everything (even the seemingly bad) in our lives, for our ultimate good.

A daughter is telling her Mother how everything is going wrong, she's failing algebra, her boyfriend broke up with her and her best friend is moving away.

Meanwhile, her Mother is baking a cake and asks her daughter if she would like a snack, and the daughter says,

"Absolutely Mom, I love your cake."

“Here, have some cooking oil," her Mother offers.

"Yuck" says her daughter.

"How about a couple raw eggs?"

"Gross, Mom!"

"Would you like some flour then? Or maybe baking soda?"

"Mom, those are all yucky!"

To which the mother replies: "Yes, all those things seem bad all by themselves. But when they are put together in the right way, they make a wonderfully delicious cake!"

God works the same way. Many times we wonder why He would let us go through such bad and difficult times. But God knows that when He puts these things all in His order, they always work for good! We just have to trust Him and, eventually, they will all make something wonderful!

I hope your day is a "piece of cake!"

Oh, I just love that one. I was going to say that it was a reminder of the scripture "All things work together for the good", but Kristen beat me to the punch, lol. Thanks for sharing, Tracy.

Hi, Tracy. I hadn't read this before, but love it. It is a great analogy of how God take everything in our lives and puts it together for good.

Loved the story, such truth and how wonderful that God can take our basic ingredients and create a cake!
I also tried the cake recipe below and it was a hit!!

I've read this before, Tracy. I remember the first time was about a year and half ago. My step mom passed away Dec. 06 and a few months or so after that I received this email and sent it to my dad. He still struggles even to this day of losing his wife of 30 years. I thought it would bring him comfort...as hopefully it should all of us...God is using all those ingredients even though some of them are nasty and even very bitter (the soda). I've had enough soda in my life but you know how important that is...the cake (and our lives) cannot raise to the full potential if the soda is not added.

Thanks for this reminder.

Thank you for your prayers and sweet comment on my blog. I really appreciate it. Today went better than I expected, though I did feel myself wanting to shut down. I was able to keep myself from doing it, for the most part...

and thank you for the reminder that God works all things together for the good... the individual things by themselves are bad alone, but together, somehow God makes something really good out of it in the end. Like Beth Moore says, "God takes our pain to birth our passion." It's so true.
God bless,
Heather

After all these years I have never heard that story.

Thanks for sharing it. That was cool. I'll have to remember it for my kids.

OK - I'm getting tired of some of the yukky stuff in my life right now! When is that cake gonna start coming together?!
